Resolutions - Part 3
By Glen Knabe
    R--Read: Read God’s Word on a regular basis
    E--Encourage: Encourage one another daily.
    S--Shine: Let your light shine.
    O--Obey: To obey is better than sacrifice.
    L--Love: Love one another as God has loved us.
    U--United: A house divided cannot stand

T--Teach: As this, a new year, begins, let us resolve to teach. Jesus Himself encourages us to teach when He gave the great commission in Matthew 28:19-20. We are to “teach them to obey everything I have commanded you.” We teach by what we say, how we say it, what we do and how we do it. We teach by example, by how we live and how we communicate to others on an everyday basis. It may not be a one on one Bible study, but each of us are certainly teachers, not only to those around us, but also our children. The importance of passing down our faith from one generation to the next is of immeasurable value. Moses stressed this importance to the Israelites in Deuteronomy when he spoke to them concerning all that God had done for them and His Word to them.

Concerning the great deeds God did, Moses stressed to them to “Teach them to your children and to their children after them . . . that they may learn to revere [God] as long as they live in the land and may teach them to their children” (Deut. 4:9-10). Concerning God’s commands, Moses says to “Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up” (Deut. 6:6). Let us resolve to teach our neighbors, our friends, and especially our children.

I--Increase: May we increase in wisdom. “Let the wise listen and add to their learning and let the discerning get guidance” (Proverbs 1:5). May we increase in giving, whether it be contribution, time, effort, energy, or love. “Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sow generously will also reap generously . . . Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap” (2 Cor. 9:6; Luke 6:38). May we increase in number as we follow the example of Jesus to “seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:10).

O--Observe: Let us resolve to observe the first day of the week. The Apostles give us an example to meet on the first day of the week for the purpose of worship and breaking bread, or the communion (Acts 20:7). So, “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another . . .” (Heb. 10:25). Let us resolve to be present each and every time the doors are open.

Do You Live What You Preach?                   "A Word from Ryan"

Hindu Woman

While speaking to a group of Hindu women, a missionary noticed one of the women silently walked away but soon returned and listened more intently than before. Afterwards, he asked her, “Why did you live in the middle of my message?” The woman replied, “I was so interested in the wonderful things you were saying that I went to ask your servant if you live like you teach and he said that you do. So, I came back to hear more about Jesus.” We as Christians need to discipline ourselves to practice what we preach. We can preach all day how we are to be more Christ-like, but are we living how God desires us to? “... Jesus began both to do and teach” (Acts 1:1)

Grandma’s Heavenly Cake

Two little boys are telling their Grandma how “everything” is going wrong: the bully at school, their parents grounded them and they have colds. Meanwhile, Grandma is baking a cake. She asks the boys it they would like a snack, which of course they do. “Here. Have some cooking oil.” “Yuck,” says one boy. “How about a couple raw eggs?” “Gross, Grandma,” says the other. “Would you like some flour then? Or maybe baking soda?” “Grandma, those are all yucky!” bowl, eggs, hand mixer They said in unison. To which Grandma replies, “Yes, all those things seem bad all by themselves, but when they are put together in the right way they make a wonderfully delicious cake! God works the same way. Many times we wonder why he would let us go through such bad and difficult times. But God knows that when He puts these things all in His order, they always work for good! We just have to trust Him and eventually they will all make something wonderful!”

The Word of God

Feelings come and feelings go,
And feelings are deceiving;
My warrant is the Word of God
Naught else is worth believing.
I’ll trust in God’s unchanging Word
Till souls and body sever;
For though all things shall pass away,
His word will live forever.
