"From The Fullness Of His Grace"
By Glen Knabe If you have ever visited Mammoth Springs, Arkansas, then you will know what I mean when I say that it is an overwhelming, awesome sight to see. My very first job as a teen was working construction with a company that was building a fish hatchery for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission in Mammoth Springs. While there I got to know a little bit about this part of God’s creation. Mammoth Springs is aptly named. It is the head or source of the Spring River. If you ever want to see how a river begins, visit this site. Mammoth Springs is a huge (thus the name mammoth) underground spring which comes to the surface of the earth and literally gives birth to the Spring River. The opening of this spring, the point at which the spring surfaces, is about as large as a softball diamond. When you first arrive, it looks like a very large pond, but then you notice that it is moving. The depth of the spring has never been determined. Thousands upon thousands of gallons of water overflow its edge every minute. The overflow found the course of least resistance, became a river, and since its discovery it has provided benefits, recreation, and enjoyment to countless people. This past week, many from all over the United States came to Harding University’s annual Lectureship. Their theme for the week was That You May Believe: Studies from the Gospel of John. It was an encouraging time for all who attended. It was also an uplifting and faith affirming experience to look again at Him in whom we believe. I tell you about Mammoth Springs this morning because it is the closest thing that I could think of that could illustrate John 1:16. It reads, “From the fullness of His grace we have all received one blessing after another.” The source of God’s grace is overwhelming and awesome. It’s depth cannot be determined. From its fullness and overflow we have received the benefits, blessings, and joy on a continual basis. Almost every summer the Spring River gets so low that you can’t go canoeing on it. Its source is low. However, the source of God’s grace is never low, always full and overflowing to all who receive Him. | |
