"I Am He"
By Glen Knabe

In John chapter eighteen Jesus went with His disciples to the garden of Gethsemane. It was here that Judas came guiding a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief priests and Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns and weapons and it was their aim to arrest Jesus, take Him to the chief priests, and put Him on trial. Jesus knew all that was going to happen to Him and when He saw them coming He went out to meet them. He asked, “Who is it you want?” “Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “I am He,” Jesus said. Verse six of John 18 records that when Jesus said, “I am He,” the crowd drew back and fell to the ground.

Even here at His arrest, Jesus displays that He and God the Father are in complete control. With a simple statement, “I am He,” the crowd buckled at His power. They did not come to take Him by force, even though it might have been their intention. He could have escaped from them as He did on other occasions (John 7:30, 45-46). They could not overpower Him. Their words were no match for Him. Jesus with lamb So how were they able to arrest Him? Jesus allowed them to. He was in control the entire time. They were not going to take Him anywhere unless it was His will to go with them. We thank God that His will was to humbly and willingly undergo that arrest and the subsequent punishment our sins deserve. As we gather to worship this morning, we can still take comfort in the words He spoke, “I am He.” He is the great I Am and just as He was in control then, He is in control now. The victory belongs to the Lord and all that are His. The world gave Him all they could and in this world we too will have trouble. “But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

Happy Birthday!!                  "A Word from Ryan"
Today, October 12, 2008, Emery Kate Wilson turns the big ONE!!! Wow, time surely does go by real fast. It seems like just yesterday we got the news that Jamie was expecting, little girls and that we were just bringing her home from the hospital; and now we are having a big birthday bash for her. God is so good and He has blessed Jamie and me with a beautiful little girl and she is so much fun. I like what James tells us in James 1:17: Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. God has blessed us with a great gift in Emery. God has blessed all of us with the gift of children. My prayer is and I would ask you to pray for Emery and all the children here at Holden Avenue. Children are a heritage from the Lord as the Bible says in Psalm 127:3. Have a great day in the Lord and thank God for all the children!!!

Adam & Eve

At Sunday School they were teaching how God created everything, including human beings. Johnny seemed especially intent when they told him how Eve was created out of one of Adam’s ribs. person in bed Later in the week his mother noticed him laying down as though he were ill, and she said, "Johnny, what’s the matter?" Johnny responded, "I have a pain in my side. I think I’m going to have a wife."

Almighty

"The Spirit of God has made me, And the breath of the Almighty gives me life.”
Job 33:4

When we learn to recognize that God Almighty is the answer to peace and contentment within our lives, the responsibilities we have will be as clear as crystal because the Almighty wished to bless you in every way.
