"Christians: It’s Time to Vote"
By Glen Knabe

The upcoming election in November is a very important one indeed. Not only on a national level, but on a state and local level as well. Each election brings its own attacks on biblical principles. And even though one could write a book on the things that Christians need to take notice of and stand up against, we will only deal with two issues in this article. I realize that many people do not believe politics should be discussed within religious settings. I am sensitive about those feelings and am not trying to discuss one party over another. However, God has never passed off sin as politics. To allow sin to destroy our nation because we pass it off as politics and stay out of it is the same as voting it in. As Sir Edmund Burke once said, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."

On November 4, Arkansas voters will decide whether or not to legalize a state run lottery. Arkansas voters defeated attempts in 1996, 2000 and in 2004 to legalize full scale casinos and lotteries in the state. This is yet another attempt and is using the lottery as the means to an end. However, Amendment 3 contains no definition of what a lottery is and so leaves the door open to bring many other forms of "chance gaming" into the state. Even though we cannot say that gambling is specifically mentioned in the Bible, it does contradict many biblical principles and is accompanied by "many griefs" as people act on their "love of money" (1 Timothy 6:9-10). Please take the time to read the available information in the foyer on the issue of gambling and vote NO to Amendment 3.

Another issue that needs our attention is Adoption Act 1. The Department of Health and Human Services (DHS) recently repealed a policy that prevents foster children from being placed in homes where there is a live-in boyfriend or girlfriend. This change of policy opens the door for the placement of children into the homes of homosexual couples. The gay agenda has already placed millions of dollars into the state of Arkansas for advertisement to defeat this Act. Simply put, Act 1 would prevent adoptive or foster care children from being placed in homes with individuals, homosexual or heterosexual, who have a live-in boyfriend or girlfriend. It will ban homosexual couples from adopting children or serving as foster parents. Act 1 will not affect the ability of single people to adopt children or be foster parents, nor will it decrease the number of foster homes currently available. Homes with live-in boyfriends or girlfriends (gay or straight) are not good places for foster or adoptive children. That is why DHS has not placed children in these situations in the past. Act 1 makes that good policy a state law. This issue is not about rights of adults. It is about the welfare of the children. Please vote YES to Adoption Act 1.

When I Grow Up ...                  "A Word from Ryan"
A first grade teacher seated her students in a circle. She asked them what they wanted to be when they grew up. One by one, each child got up and announced, "I'd like to be a nurse like my mother," or "I want to be a banker like my father," or "I want to be a teacher like you, Miss Smith."

The last child to speak was the most shy and timid little boy in the class. He said, "When I get big, I'm going to be a lion tamer in the circus. I'm going to face those animals with my whip and chair and make them leap through hoops of fire and obey all of my commands."

Seeing the disbelieving looks on the faces of his classmates that he could ever act so boldly or bravely, he was quick to reassure them, "Well, of course, I'll have my mother with me."

We are sometimes shy and timid about standing up for Christ in the midst of an immoral society. We keep quiet when we ought to speak up. We cower when we ought to take a stand. Where do we get the inner strength to be bold and brave? Only through the assurance that we have Christ by our side.

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." (Phil. 4:13).

With that knowledge, take courage today to do something for God that you've been hesitant to do.

A Cappella Angels Announcement
Not for Sale

I was traveling in rural Arkansas when I ran out of gas. I went to a nearby farmhouse to call a service station, but the farmer insisted on taking me to town, bringing me back, an even staying with me until the car was running again. I offered him $20, but he shook his head. cartoon car at gas pump When I insisted, he replied, "Look, I feel very good about helping you. If I took your money, you’d be buying that feeling back from me ... and it’s not for sale."

It was the end of the day when I parked my police van in front of the station. As I gathered my equipment, my K-9 partner, Jake, was barking, and I saw a little boy staring in at me. "Is that a dog you have back there?" he asked. "It sure is," I replied. Puzzled, the boy looked at me and then toward the back of the van. Finally he said, "What’d he do?"

Moral of the story:
Be careful of the places you are seen!

Answer

"Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know."
Jeremiah 33:3

As a parent, you will never have all the answers for your children or your spouse. But thank God who invites you to call upon Him for guidance and direction in your life. (Selected)
