The Same Yesterday, Today and Forever
By Glen Knabe
Many skeptics of the bible have tried to prove that it is not an authentic document given to man from God. For evidence they turn to the scriptures and point out “so called” discrepancies that in their minds shuts the lid on their case for fraud. Those that do not believe in the Bible as the inspired Word of God say that the Bible cannot be real because it talks about two different Gods. The God of the Old Testament and the God of the New Testament, to them, are two different Gods. One is jealous and filled with wrath and judgment while the other is kind, loving, forgiving, and offers eternal life. There is no way they could be one and the same. Only a casual reading of the dealings of God with mankind will reveal the very opposite of what most nonbelievers so readily affirm. Throughout the Bible, God deals with man the same. In each dispensation, God has dealt with man with the same three eternal principles:   grace, faith and obedience.

Consider the first age of biblical history, the patriarchal age. In the patriarchal age God demonstrated his grace to Adam and Eve by creating them in His image, placing them in a garden paradise and giving them guidelines by which they could remain safe. This are all undeserved gifts that God saw fit to give. God’s response to man after grace is given is based upon man’s reaction to that grace. Adam and Eve had to believe and obey in order to enjoy that grace. They did neither and so God had no choice but to banish them from the garden. Even in so doing, God did not abandon them, He continued to be with them and cultivated a relationship with them, more grace.

In a world of evil and wickedness, grace was extended to Noah (Gen 6:8). He had to believe and he had to obey. Noah did both (Gen 6:22) and was saved from the flood. Great promises came to Abraham through grace. He had to believe these promises. He did (Gen 15:6). He had to obey. He did, even when it meant the death of his one and only son (Gen 22:1-14). Not one promise Abraham received from God failed to come true.

This is how God dealt with those in the Patriarchal age. He first extended grace and his next move was in response to mans faith and obedience. God still works the same today. He is the same yesterday, today and forever (Heb. 13:8) and He does not change like shifting shadows (James 1:17).

Super Bowl Sunday                   "A Word from Ryan"

football & helmet

Tonight, February 3, 2007 is Super Bowl XLII.  The game will feature the AFC Champion New England Patriots and the NFC Champion New York Giants.  This will be a game that I am anxious to see.  I am not the biggest NFL fan because I would rather watch NCAA football.  But when I watch pro football, I pull for the New York Giants.  Both teams have worked hard to get to this big game.  Both of these teams have their goals set on winning the Super Bowl and becoming World Champions.  In football, the goal is to win the coveted prize; the Super Bowl.  Spiritually speaking, our goal is to go to Heaven.  I pray that we are keeping our eyes and our focus on Jesus.  As the old saying goes, "keep your eyes on the prize."  Never take your eyes off the Lord, keep walking the strait and narrow path that leads to eternal life (Matthew 7:13-14).  When the Super Bowl is all said and done, there can only be one winner; Giants or Patriots.  Folks, in Christ, we all can win the prize that is imperishable (1 Corinthians 9:24-27). As Christians, we are all winners in the Lord.  God loves you, I love you and let's go to Heaven together!

When I Say ...
When I say “I am a Christian” I’m not shouting “I’m clean livin’” I’m whispering “I was lost, now I’m found and forgiven.”

When I say “I am a Christian” I don’t speak of this with pride,” I’m confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say “I am a Christian” I’m not trying to be strong. I’m professing that I’m weak and need His strength to carry on.

When I say “I am a Christian” I’m not bragging of success. I’m admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess.

When I say “I am a Christian” I’m not claiming to be perfect, My flaws are far too visible but, God believes I am worth it.

When I say “I am a Christian” I still feel the sting of pain I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name.

When I say “I am a Christian” I’m not holier than thou, I’m just a sinner who received God’s good grace, somehow!

Trust in the Lord
Trust in yourself, and you will always be disappointed at your level of achievement. Trust in your friends, and they may let you down in your hour of greatest need. Trust in money, and you will spend your days trying to protect your investments. But trust in God, and you can rest assured of His Eternal presence.
