"Help God! I’m Drowning"
By Glen Knabe

The sea is raging and those entangled in the waves are frantically looking for deliverance. The waves crash around them, the winds toss them back and forth and all the while they shout, “Help God! I’m drowning.”

This is the tale of a true story. It is not in the form of the latest movie or the current best seller. You won’t find it in the theaters or the bookstores. As a matter of fact you probably will not find but a hand full of people who even know about it. It is the story of Christians today who are struggling about in the Satan-made sea of fear and worry.

The words of Jesus are very clear in the New Testament. “Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear.” “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” “Why do you doubt?” “Don’t be afraid, just believe.” “Don’t cry.” “Your sins are forgiven. Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” “Do not let your hearts be troubled.” “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.” “Take heart! I have overcome the world.” The inspired writers echo these teachings of Christ. Paul says in Philippians 4:6, “Do not be anxious about anything ... present your requests to God. And the peace of God ... will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Peter says, “Cast all your anxiety on him because He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). The Hebrew writer repeats what God Himself has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you. The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid” (Hebrews 13:5-6).

The scriptures are full of these words. There are more. I only listed a few. But why are Christians drowning? Do we doubt these words? Do we doubt that God really meant what He said? Do we have enough faith to totally rely on what He has said? Someone put fear into these words: Fear is nothing more than False Evidences Appearing Real. What Satan places in our path has the appearance of doing us physical, emotional, mental, and financial harm. However, they are only real to the one who believes them to be real. The choice is this. Do I believe in what I sense and see or do I believe in the Word of God? It is a test of faith and only those who walk by faith and not by sight are pulled from the raging waters.

Information & Insights
  • The March calendar will be coming out soon. If you have an event in March please let the office know this week.

  • The Olyphant Church of Christ invites everyone to hear Garry Koettel tonight at 5pm.

  • Bible history according to children: In the beginning, which occurred near the start, there was nothing but God, darkness, and some gas. The Bible says, “The Lord thy God is one,” but I think he must be a lot older that that. Anyway, God said, “Give me a light!” and someone did. Then God made the world.

  • Thank you note from the Children’s Home in Paragould and the Chronisters are displayed on the bulletin board.

  • A donation in memory of Dorothy Leland was made to the Caring Sisters Ministry by Sharon Long.

  • Just a reminder that our Ladies’ Day is April 12th. Make plans to attend and bring a friend!! Elsie Hufford from Jackson TN will speak about “Understanding Jesus Through Different Customs”.

  • A donation has been made to the Caring Sisters in memory of Dorothy Leland and Velma Reeves and in honor of the Chronister’s 50th anniversary by John & Gail Clark.

Children’s Homes Ministry

Thanks so much to “bucket brigade” and the great folks at Holden Avenue! The van from the Children’s Home in Paragould came Monday, Feb 11th, and we were able to fill three big barrels of goodies for them. Christmas stocking The house mothers keep a running “wish list” for things they need for the cottages, and we were able to fulfill everything thanks to your generosity. The lady who keeps the list said that the mothers and kids are so tickled when the van comes back from our church - that it’s just like Christmas! The Morrilton home also keeps a “wish list” on their website which usually includes food and supplies. The list is taken to the store and the fun starts. God gave us all talents and mine just happens to be shopping! bucket Just remember when the children come around with their buckets that ALL the money is spent for children who desperately need our help!!! Thank you so much for helping make this ministry so successful!!

Sitter-Quitter-Getter

I’m a SITTER I just want to sit and enjoy the service and do nothing.

I’m a QUITTER. I taught class once, but I’ve served my time. I visited for the church a time or two, but on one was home. If anything is done in this church somebody else will have to do it.

I’m a GETTER. The more I think about God and His salvation, the more I want to do for Him. Even today He is preparing a place for me, in eternity. He hasn’t stopped working for me, so I will continue to work for him.
