We Need Thanksgiving
By Glen Knabe

The Lord sustains us (Psalm 3:5; Isaiah 46:4). He upholds us (Isaiah 46:3). It is by His will that we were created and have our being (Hebrews 1:3; Revelation 4:11). He is the giver of every good and perfect gift (James 1:17) and causes the harvest to be plentiful (Deuteronomy 16:15; Psalm 107:37). cloud The Lord sends the rains to replenish and refresh the earth (Joel 2:23; Leviticus 26:4-5). In the wilderness, the Lord cared for His people. He led them to water to drink. He rained down bread from heaven. He brought in meat with the winds. For forty years in the desert their feet did not swell, their sandals did not wear thin and their clothes did not wear out (Deuteronomy 8:4, 29:5). Today, the Lord still provides for His children. Without Him, where would we be?

Yes, we need thanksgiving. We need it every day. We have a need to express our gratitude towards those who help us. When one mows our yard or fixes us dinner, we have the need to say “thank you” for what was done. When the Lord blesses us, how much greater is our need to give thanks. He still gives us our daily bread. He still provides our daily garments. He said He would (Matthew 6:33). We need thanksgiving lest we forget just how much we depend on Him to sustain us. “Do not forget the Lord your God,” Moses tells the Israelites in Deuteronomy chapter eight. Do not forget Him when you eat and are satisfied. Do not forget Him when you build fine houses and settle down. Do not forget Him when you increase and all that you have is multiplied. Do not think that the power and strength of our own hands have produced this wealth for us. Remember the Lord for it is He who gives the ability to produce wealth. Oh, that we had space to tell all that God has done for us; that we had room enough and time enough to speak of the spiritual blessings we have in Christ as well as the material. We need thanksgiving. May all that we do, whether in word or deed, be done in the name of Jesus Christ, continually giving thanks to God the Father through Him (Colossians 3:17).

I Am Thankful For ...                   "A Word from Ryan"

I am thankful for . . .

The clothes that fit a little sung because it means I have enough to eat ...
woman with lawn mower My shadow who watches me work because it means I am out in the sunshine ...

A lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning and gutters that need fixing because it means I have a home ...

The spot at the far end of the parking lot because it means I am capable of walking ...

My huge heating bill because it means I am warm ...

All the complaining I hear about our government because it means we have freedom of speech ...

man ironing The lady behind me in church who sings off key because it means I can hear ...

The piles of laundry and ironing because it means my loved ones are nearby ...

The alarm that goes off in the early morning hours because it means that I am alive ...

Weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day because it means I have been productive ...

I have never really thought about it in this way but I am thankful for all this and more, hope you are too. I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving and please enjoy the time with your family and friends. May God bless you as you strive to do His will.
