God Is In Control
By Glen Knabe
It is hard sometimes to believe this, but God is in control. We look around us in the world and see injustice at every level of government. We see immorality in everyone around us. We see drugs, homosexuality, and even murder legalized. We see lying given a new name and people who are good at it are praised for ingenuity. We see problems in school going from chewing gum and talking to teenage pregnancy, drug overuse, and shootings. Needless to say, it would be easy for the Christian to look around and doubt.
The Israelites who were being forced into slavery in Egypt were perhaps asking the same question. Is God in control? Is the God of heaven and earth, the creator of all things really in control? Perhaps the devote Jews who were being carried off in the Babylonian captivity were asking that question. Habakkuk asked those same questions.
“Why do you make me look at injustice? Why do you tolerate wrong? The law is paralyzed and justice never prevails. The wicked hem in the righteous, so that justice is perverted.”(1:3-4) God, are you really in control? I imagine that even during the 400 silent years between the two testaments there were those who wondered and doubted.
We, as Christians are asked to walk by our faith in God, not by what we see in the world. (II Corinthians 5:7) Jesus told us to not worry about life. (Matthew 6:25-34) Why? Because God is in control. Those people who were forced into slavery were made into a great nation through God’s miraculous power. The same Jews that were carried off into captivity saw God’s power bring them back to Jerusalem. Habakkuk walked by faith and declared that even though calamity was near, he would rejoice in the Lord who was his strength. After 400 silent years, the Messiah was born. What new great and wonderful thing will God do next? God is in control! Amen!

“And He Died . . .” "A Word from Ryan"
The story is told of a man who had very little interest in things religious and rarely attended any religious service. One day his niece was so persuasive that he agreed to go with her to worship. But she was very disappointed when the preacher read from Genesis 5:3-31. The genealogies listed seemed to be such uninteresting verses to read at that time. She thought it could not have any good influence with her uncle. Time after time the reading said, “and he died.”
This caused the man to think as he never thought before. In John 11:26 he read, “And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.” Do you believe this?
Finally he too dies to sin and the world as he obeys the gospel. As he now lives faithfully to the Lord, he is ready for death (Hebrews 9:27). Are you?
