Tax Free                      "A Word from Ryan"

An elderly Christian man was called upon by the tax assessor to determine the amount of taxes that should be paid. When asked what property he had, the Christian said, “I am a very wealthy man.” The tax assessor asked him to list his possessions and here were his possessions:
  • I have remission of sins (Acts 2:38)
  • I have a mansion in heaven (John 14:1-2)
  • I have peace that passes understanding (Philippians 4:7)
  • I have joy unspeakable (1 Peter 1:8)
  • I have a divine love that will never fail (1 Corinthians 13:8)
  • I have a devoted and loving wife (Proverbs 31:10)
  • I have devoted children (Exodus 20:12)
  • I have true and loyal friends (Proverbs 18:24)
  • I have songs in the night (Psalms 42:8)
  • I have a crown of life (James 1:12)
  • I have a Savior, Jesus Christ, who supplies all my needs freely (Philippians 4:19)

Closing the book, the tax assessor said, “You are truly a wealthy man, but do you know that I am not able to tax you for any of this?” He then added, “You have possessions that give 100% profit.”

The Criticized Preacher

If he’s young, he lacks experience;
If his hair is gray, he’s too old.
If he speaks from notes,
He has canned sermons;
If he is extemporaneous, he wanders.
If he spends time in his study,
He neglects the people;
If he visits, he’s a gadabout.
If he is attentive to the poor,
He’s playing the grandstand.
If to the wealthy, he’s trying to butter his bread.
If he suggests improvements,
He’s a dictator;
If he doesn’t, he’s short of vision.
If he condemns wrong,
He’s cranky and intolerant;
If he doesn’t, he is compromiser.
If he preaches thirty-five minutes,
He’s windy;
If less, he’s lazy.
If he preaches the truth, he’s offensive
If not, he’s a hypocrite.
If he fails to please everyone,
He’s hurting the church;
If he does, he has no convictions.
If he preaches on giving,
He’s a money grabber;
If he doesn’t, he’s not developing the people.
“And some folk think the preacher has an easy time.”
