Health of Heart                      "A Word from Ryan"

Someone has said, "everybody sees who you are on the outside, but only you and God see who you are on the inside." Do you ever wonder why the Scriptures speak so often about the heart of man? For example, why were we told of the heart of David (1 Samuel 16:7; Acts 13:22)? Would not his actions have told us enough? Why are we told to "keep the heart with all diligence" (Proverbs 4:23)? Why the emphasis on "hiding God's Word in the heart" (Psalm 119:11)? The Lord desires pruity of heart. That's why we read all references to it in the bible. Think for a moment of all the things we are told to do today to be heart healthy. We should give such attention to our spiritual heart! Whether or not we maintain purity in the heart will determine our eternal destiny. Jesus said, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God" (Matthew 5:8). One of the great blessings of life is to see the purity of a child. How innocent! How pure! It's interesting that God wants us to revert back to that state (Matthew 18:3); at least as far as the heart is concerned. Here are some things to consider as we think about the health of the heart:
1. Love: sincerity or flattery   2. Motives: kind or vindictive   3. Words: sweet or destructive   4. Actions: Godly or hypocrisy   5. Attitude: selfless or selfish   6. Thoughts: holy or vile   7. Worship: true or vain   8. Prayer: respect or irreverent   9. Singing: joy or boredom   10. Giving: cheerful or grudgingly   11. Communion: examination or weakness   12. Preaching: listening or sleeping   13. Assembly: present or absent   14. Lord's Work: active or passive   15. Faults: forgiveness or grudges   16. Bible: knowledge or ignorance   17. Serving: desire or duty   18. Obedience: complete or lacking   19. Faith: sure or unsure   20. Shepherds: follow or stray

"For out of the heart proceed . . ." (Matthew 15:19)
