Shameless                      "A Word from Ryan"

A young minister was asked by a funeral director to hold a grave-side service for a homeless man with no family or friends. The funeral was to be held at a cemetery way back in the country, and this would be the first to be laid to rest there. Unfamiliar with the backwoods area, the minister became lost; and being the typical man, he did not stop for directions. When he finally arrived an hour late, he saw the backhoe, and the crew who were eating lunch, but the hearse was nowhere in sight. He apologized to the workers for his tardiness, and he stepped to the side of the open grave, where he saw the vault lid already in place. He assured the workers he would not hold them up for long, but this was the proper thing to do. As the workers gathered around, still eating their lunch, the minister poured out his heart and soul. As he preached the workers began to say “Amen,” “Praise the Lord,” and “Glory”! Encouraged by their enthusiastic response, he preached as he had never preached before: from Genesis all the way to Revelation. Finally, he closed the lengthy service with a prayer and walked to his car. As he was opening the car door and taking off his coat, he overheard one of the workers saying to another, “I ain’t ever seen anything like that before and I’ve been putting’ in septic tanks for 20 years. When some hear this story, they feel sorry for the embarrassed preacher. When I hear this story, I rejoice at the receptivity of the workers. Oh that all of us were so eager so share the gospel, that we were beyond shame for any opportunity to speak the glorious message of Jesus Christ. Be on the lookout this week for your septic tank service and preach on!

Romans 1:16 says, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.”
