VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL                      "A Word from Ryan"

A Sunday school teacher asked her little children as they were on the way to church service, “And why is it necessary to be quiet in church?” One bright little girl replied, “Because people are sleeping.” One Sunday in a Midwest City, a young child was “acting up” during the morning worship hour. The parents did their best to maintain some sense of order in the pew but were losing the battle. Finally, the father picked up the little fellow and walked sternly up the aisle on his way out. Just before reaching the foyer, the little one called loudly to the congregation, “Pray for me! Pray for me!” A heavy snowstorm closed the schools in one town. When the children returned to school a few days later, one grade school teacher asked her students whether they had used the time away from school constructively. “I sure did, teacher,” one little girl replied. “I just prayed for more snow.” Sally had been teaching her three-year-old daughter, Caitlin, the Lord’s Prayer. For several evenings at bedtime she repeated it after her. One night the girl said she was ready to solo. Sally listened with pride as Caitlin carefully enunciated each word, right up to the end of the prayer... “And lead us not into temptation,” she prayed, “but deliver us some e-mail.”

Children are a blessing from God! Vacation Bible School starts tonight!!! We hope to have lots of children here. Our theme this year is “Children of the King!” We will hear lessons about Naaman’s Servant Girl, Miriam, David and Goliath and Josiah. I look forward to an exciting week of studying about these different Bible characters. I love to study the Bible and see what we can learn from the loves of these people. I hope that we all can find something from the lessons that we can use in our lives to better our walk with God. I hope we can get as many kids in here as possible and that we have many visitors and our own members here for VBS. The children and adults will all hear lessons from the Word of God which is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105).

He Is Coming Back!!!

Why did Jesus fold the linen burial cloth after His resurrection? The Gospel of John (20:7) tells us that the napkin, which was placed over the face of Jesus, was not just  thrown aside like the grave clothes.  The Bible takes an entire verse to tell us that the napkin was neatly folded, and was placed at the head of that stony coffin.  Is that important? You'd better believe it! Is that significant?  Absolutely!  Is it really significant? Yes! In order to understand the significance of the folded napkin, you have to understand a little bit about Hebrew tradition of that day.  The folded napkin had to do with the Master and Servant, and every Jewish boy knew this tradition.  When the servant set the dinner table for the master, he made sure that it was exactly the way the master wanted it. The table was furnished perfectly, and then the servant would wait, just out of sight, until the master had finished eating, and the servant would not dare touch that table, until the master was finished. Now if the master was done eating, he would rise from the table, wipe his fingers, his mouth, and clean his beard, and would wad up that napkin and toss it onto the table.  The servant would then know to clear the table.  For in those days, the wadded napkin meant, “I'm done".  But if the master got up from the table, and folded his napkin, and laid it beside his plate, the servant would not dare touch the table, because the servant knew that the folded napkin meant, "I'm not finished yet."  The folded napkin meant, "I'm coming back!"
