Anniversaries
In 1631 an English Bible printer forgot the NOT in
one of the Ten Commandments. Here’s how his mistake in Exodus 20:14 read: “Thou shalt commit adultery.” Because of this colossal goof, the edition became known as The Wicked Bible, and the printer had to pay a large fine. You Don't Have To, You Get To "A Word from Ryan"
In Hamilton, Alabama there is a place called Maywood Christian Camp. Inside of the mess hall there is a quotation hanging on a wall which says, "You don't have to, you get to." It is not just any wall, it is the one right beside the dishwasher. At this camp plates, silverware, and glasses all have to be washed after each meal. Because the dishwasher has to be at a certain temperature for health code requirements, you might imagine how hot it is beside the dishwasher. All of the cabins at Maywood have air conditioning, but in the kitchen by the dish washer is the hottest indoor spot on campus. Not only that, but it proves to be a messy job. All the left over food and germs from over 300 people go through the window to be handled by those who have this duty. You might think that no one would want this task. But to the contrary, counselors have to turn some campers away who plead at each meal to "get to" wash dishes. If we would all have such an attitude even about the dirty jobs in life! Can you imagine if we all took this approach in our service to Christ? We are God's children, the redeemed, the sanctified, heirs with Christ, reconciled to God, the recipients of all spiritual blessings in heavenly places.
The bottom line is, we are the most blessed people on the planet. Above all people we should understand: "YOU DON'T HAVE TO, YOU GET TO." I get to worship God. I get to serve others. I get to fellowship with those of like precious faith. I get to encourage fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. I get to greet visitors. I get to teach the lost. It is a privilege to be a child of the most high God!!! | |

An Opportunity to Serve
In recent days, an opportunity to serve has surfaced in Jackson County. On Sunday, September 23rd, at 4:00pm in the small auditorium, you are invited to learn more about this opportunity. Kim Black, a member of the Cloverdale Church of Christ in Searcy and Volunteer Coordinator for Hospice, will conduct a presentation on becoming a Hospice volunteer. As a Hospice volunteer, one is able to minister to the needs of those that are terminally ill, as well as to their families. These needs are often spiritual ones. The program is open to both men and women and Kim will be able to answer any questions that might arise after the presentation. This is ministry in its purest form, to look after the needs of others. By doing so, the seed of God’s word and His love are sown, and according to I Corinthians 3:6-7, God is the one who will make things grow.
In Mark 9:29 when the disciples couldn’t cast the evil spirit out of the boy, the disciples asked Jesus, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” Jesus replied “This kind can come out only by prayer and fasting." (KJV) However in the NIV, it says “This kind can come out only by prayer.” What happened to “fasting?” |
