"Gracious Words"
By Glen Knabe

When Jesus went from town to town teaching the Bible, we are told that people were amazed and astonished and that everyone spoke well of Him. One of the reasons this was so was because He taught as one having authority (Matt. 7:28-29). Another reason this was so was because of His gracious words. Luke 4:22 says, “All spoke well of Him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from His lips.” Another way to put it was that the people were amazed at the “words of grace” that came from His lips.

Throughout the New Testament one finds that Jesus’ words to those who were poor, suffering, abused, mistreated, outcasts, and sinners were indeed words of grace. He came to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10) and so His words were words of redemption and forgiveness. How sweet it must have been to hear those words. How sweet it must be for a sinner today to hear those words, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”

As Christians, we know that we are disciples and followers of Christ. We are his ambassadors (2 Corinthians 5:20), his representatives. In other words, we are all of Christ that anyone will ever see while on this earth until He returns. Since that is the case, what impression do our words send to those who need compassion. Of words, Solomon said, “Reckless words pierce like a sword...” (Prov. 12:18). “...A kind word cheers him up” (Prov. 12:25) “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger” (Prov. 15:1). “A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in setting of silver” (Prov. 25:11). We use words to communicate to everyone we meet; so, whether child or parent, brother or sister, of family or of Christ, poor, suffering, outcast, or sinner, let the gracious words of Jesus come from our lips as well. “Let your conversation be always full of grace...” (Colossians 4:6).

Crowley’s Ridge College

On February 19, 2008 several proposed routes for a by-pass were presented by the Arkansas State Highway & Transportation Department, including one that goes through the middle of Crowley’s Ridge College. In addition to destroying the beauty of the CRC Campus, dividing the campus would create an unmanageable logistics problem and also create many student safety issues. A copy of the request for our help is displayed on the bulletin board. Please help CRC by signing and mailing the letter inserted in the bulletin. (Be sure to include your address also.)

Obstacles man running hurdles "A Word from Ryan"
Last week in the Information and Insights, I gave this quote to Brenda: "Don’t tell God how big your obstacles are, tell your obstacles how big God is!"  Folks, that quote is so true.  God knows that we have to face some big obstacles in this life.  Our obstacles may come in different forms.  Your obstacle may come in the form of a temptation or as a physical trial. handicap icon When I think about someone in the pages of the Bible who faced a big obstacle I think of David.  David was a man who faced a GIANT obstacle (1 Samuel 17).  The thing I like about him is that David didn't back down from his big obstacle, he told his obstacle how big God is.  Folks, no matter what obstacle you face in this life, you can overcome with the Lord's help.  We must put our faith and trust in the Lord and when we do that, we can overcome any obstacle that comes our way.  I like the King James Version's translation of Proverbs 3:5-6 which says, (Verse 5) "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. (Verse 6) In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."  Let's learn to trust God with all of our heart and know with God's help we can overcome any obstacle that Satan throws at us.

There are 16 books of the Bible
hidden in the test below -
see how many you can find!
I once made a remark about the hidden books of the Bible. It was a lulu, kept people looking so hard for facts and for others it was a real revelation. Some were in a jam especially since the names of the books were not capitalized, but the truth finally struck home to numbers of readers. To others it was a real job. We want it to be a most fascinating few moments for you. Yes, there will be some really easy ones to spot. Others may require judges to help them. I will quickly admit it usually takes a minister to find one of them, and there will be loud lamentations when it is found. A little lady says she brews a cup of tea, so she can concentrate better. See how well you can compete. Relax now for there are really sixteen names of books of the Bible in this story.

The Bible According to Kids

Noah's Ark One of the next important people was Noah, who was a good guy though one of his kids was kind of a ham. Noah built a large boat and put his family and some animals on it. He asked some other people to join him, but they said they would have to take a rain check.
