"God Never Sleeps"
By Glen Knabe

After a long day of healing many people, Jesus got into a boat and his disciples followed Him. They began to row to the other side of the lake when a furious storm came up causing the waves to be swept over the boat. Needless to say the disciples where terrified. They feared for their lives; they thought they were going to drown. Where was Jesus? He was sleeping. He was in the same boat they were. He was so relaxed that He could sleep. They were so terrified they didn’t know what to do. He knew who was in control. They thought everything was out of control.

Has anything changed much in the past 2000 years? Nothing but the storms. Their storm was a physical one. Ours can be, but more times than not it is an emotional one, a mental one. The farmer that doesn’t know if his crops are going to produce enough to pay off the debt. The mother that has children but no husband to support them. The divorce that leaves everyone shocked and bewildered as to what to do from there. The doctors said it was cancer. I got laid off today. They may close the plant down.

So many things that can wreck our lives and in the process wreck our faith as well. “Where are you God? Why is this happening to me God? Are you asleep? Can’t you see?” How many times has God heard these lines from His own children’s lips?. Jesus replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Because we are going to drown, Jesus! I’m going to lose my job, Jesus! I’m not going to be able to live to see my grandchildren, Jesus! I can’t feed my children, Jesus! “You of little faith,” He says.

Are you a child of God? Have your sins been forgiven, washed away by the blood of the Lamb? Do you really believe in God and that “in all things He works for the good of those who love Him” (Rom 8:28)? Then don’t be afraid. We are in the same boat with Jesus. He is the Creator. He is in control. I can’t understand all things and I can’t give all the right answers to everyone that is hurting, including myself, but I know that Jesus is in the boat with me and even though Jesus as a man on this earth needed a little rest, God never sleeps!

“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
