"To The High School Seniors"
By Glen Knabe

For a high school senior, I suppose no month is looked forward to more than the month of May. Graduation has to be one of the biggest events in a person’s life. It signifies accomplishment, gives a sense of freedom, and marks a new beginning.

The Holden Avenue Church of Christ congratulates all of the Seniors of the class of 2008 who worked hard to reach this milestone in life. We applaud you for your hard work and accomplishments and when you walk forward to receive your diploma in a couple of weeks, we will be smiling and rejoicing with you. To Anesia Gist, Elizabeth Green, Whitney Hodges, Crystal Jones, Dustin McGee, Christy Riley, Matthew Robinson, and Joel Watson, we are proud of you. We love you and congratulate you in reaching for and obtaining this goal.

God is an awesome God and He is always looking out for us. During this wonderful time in your life, I hope that you will do this one thing among all of the excitement and happiness and celebration that is going on. Let God be a part of it! Please don’t leave Him out of your accomplishments because it is God who made it all possible.

King Solomon gives some great advice to us in Ecclesiastes 12:1. He says, “Remember your creator in the days of your youth ...” Early in his life, King Solomon allowed other influences to pull him away from God as he searched for happiness and contentment. Near the end of his life he realized that it was God all along that could provide what he was looking for and so he said the above words.

The past seventeen or eighteen years have probably seemed like a long time, but really you have just begun. You have just begun a new part of your life. You will be less and less dependent on your parents. You will make more and more of your own decisions. Most of you will move off to go to college. Whatever you do, please remember the key to success and happiness lies in God. God is faithful.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Phil 4:13

seniors "A Word from Ryan"
Seniors,

I want to tell each and every one of you that I love you and I am so proud of you all. Can you believe that you are about to graduate from high school? I bet your parents are thinking that just yesterday you were in diapers or playing tee ball. I remember when I graduated in 1999 and it seems like just yesterday I was in 7th grade playing junior high football. Seniors, cherish the memories that you have made and keep them close to your heart. But realize that even though you are closing a chapter of your lives that you are about to embark on a new journey. Whatever you plan to do, if you are going to college or going to work, do it with all your might. Always work hard at whatever you do. If I could give you any advice that is worth anything it would be to do what Jesus said in Matthew 6:33. “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.” No matter what you do in life, always seek the ways of God FIRST. Keep your focus on Him and everything else will fall into place. I like what Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 12:13 and it was “Fear God and keep His commandments for this is the whole duty of man.” God loves you, I love you and let’s go to Heaven together!

The Cross in my Pocket

I carry a cross in my pocket - a simple reminder to me
Of the fact that I am a Christian
no matter where I may be.
This little cross is not magic - nor is it a good luck charm
It isn’t meant to protect me from every physical harm.
It’s not for identification for all the world to see
It’s simply an understanding between my Savior and me.
cross When I put my hand in my pocket
to bring out a coin or key,
the Cross is there to remind me
of the price He paid for me.

It reminds me to, to be thankful

It’s also a daily reminder of the peace and comfort I share
With all who know my Master and
give themselves to His care.
So, I carry a cross in my pocket reminding no one but me
That Jesus Christ is Lord of my life If only I’ll let Him be.
