"A Faithful Mother"
By Glen Knabe
Praise God for faithful mothers! The kind of mother that is determined to lead her children to God despite the circumstances around them. The kind of mother that wants more than anything for her children to go to heaven. Where do they come from? Does something magical happen at childbirth to create a faithful mother? Well, something magical does happen, but it is not the creation of a faithful mother. A faithful mother comes from a faithful woman.
In Exodus chapter one we read a remarkable story of two faithful mothers, but their story begins as two faithful women. The Pharaoh of Egypt was afraid of the Israelites. They were overpopulating the area and he was afraid they would rise up and overthrow him. He tried a couple of different tactics to reduce their number. The more infamous tactic was ordering the people to throw all baby boys into the Nile River. Before that, however, he went to the midwives of Israel, Shiphrah and Puah, and ordered them to kill any boy as soon as it was delivered. Verse 17 reveals a powerful testimony about these two women’s lives. “The midwives, however, feared God...they let the boys live.”
Here were two faithful women that feared God. The knew the beauty and importance of a child; that they are gifts from God to be loved, cherished, and protected. More than that, they acted on what they believed. What was the result? “So God was kind to the midwives and the people increased and became even more numerous. And because the midwives feared God, He gave them families of their own.” What kind of mothers do you think they were? Faithful mothers come from women who are first dedicated to God.
There are a lot of wonderful, faithful mothers here. It can be seen in your eyes, your smiles, your hugs, your words, and your actions. Praise God for you, our faithful mothers! What a beautiful gift to give our children. Not only the gift of a faithful mother, but also the example of a faithful woman. | |

Grandma’s Hands
Grandma, some ninety plus years, sat feebly on the patio bench. She didn't move, just sat with her head down staring at her hands. When I sat down beside her she didn’t acknowledge my presence and the longer I sat I wondered if she was okay.
Finally, not really wanting to disturb her but wanting to check on her at the same time, I asked her if she was okay. She raised her head and looked at me and smiled. “Yes, I’m fine, thank you for asking,” she said in a clear voice strong.
“I didn't mean to disturb you, Grandma, but you were just sitting here staring at your hands and I wanted to make sure you were okay,” I explained to her.
“Have you ever looked at your hands?’” she asked. “I mean really looked at your hands?”
I slowly opened my hands and stared down at them. I turned them over, palms up and then palms down. No, I guess I had never really looked at my hands as I tried to figure out the point she was making.
Grandma smiled and related this story:
“They braced and caught my fall when as a toddler I creased upon the floor. They put food in my mouth and clothes on my back. As a child, my mother taught me to fold them in prayer. They tied my shoes and pulled on my boots. They held my husband and wiped my tears when he went off to war." (Continued on back page) |

Happy Mother’s Day "A Word from Ryan"
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mother’s here today! Jamie and I are in Searcy attending the College Church of Christ for Mother’s Day. Jamie wanted to spend her first Mother’s Day with Emery and our mothers. It is neat that both of our parents live in the same town and attend the same congregation. This is an exciting and special Mother’s Day for our family since it is Jamie’s first official Mother’s Day. I am thankful for mothers and all their hard work. Jamie works extremely hard as a mother and I am glad she is around to do what she does. Emery and I would be lost without her. I am also thankful that I was able to preach my first Mother’s Day sermon here last year. I cried like a baby through the whole thing, but that is okay. When it comes to your momma, its okay to cry. I would like to say to all the mothers here today that I am thankful for all that you do and the Christian example you set for your children. I thank my mom for having to put up with me, my two older brothers and my dad who is a big kid at heart. God bless all of you and keep up the good work!

Grandma’s hands Continued
"They have been dirty, scraped and raw, swollen and bent. They were uneasy and clumsy when I tried to hold my newborn son. Decorated with my wedding band they showed the world that I was married and loved someone special. They wrote my letters to him and trembled and shook when I buried my parents and spouse.
"They have held my children and grandchildren, consoled neighbors, and shook in fits of anger when I didn’t understand". "They have covered my face, combed my hair, and washed and cleansed the rest of my body. They have been sticky and wet, bent and broken, dried and raw. And to this day when not much of anything else of me works real well, these hands hold me up, lay me down, and again continue to fold in prayer". (Continued below)

Grandma’s hands continued
"These hands are the mark of where I’ve been and the ruggedness of life. But more importantly, it will be these hands that God will reach out and take when He leads me home. And with my hands He will lift me to His side and there I will use these hands to touch the face of Christ.”
"I will never look at my hands the same again, but I remember God reached out and took my grandma’s hands and lead her home." When my hands are hurt or sore or when I stroke the face of my children and husband I think of grandma. I know she has been stroked and caressed and held by the hands of God. I, too, want to touch the face of God and feel His hands upon my face. x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x Author Unknown |
