"All It Takes Is A Little . . ." - Part 3
By Glen Knabe

Hebrews 11:6 tells us that without faith it is impossible to please God. But how much faith do we need. “If only I had more faith, I’d be able to ...” Most of us probably feel that the amount of faith we need is more than we have. Not according to Jesus. All it takes is a little. Jesus said in Matthew 17:20 that, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” As small as a mustard seed. That is not much. Necklaces used to be worn with a mustard seed in a bulb which magnified it so that it could be seen with normal eyesight. If we have faith, even though it be that small, nothing will be impossible.

All it takes is a little. We don’t need a huge quantity of faith in order to do what we need to do. We have what we need. The problem is that sometimes we worry so much about having a lot of faith that we miss the mustard seed that we do have. We don’t need to worry about what we don’t have. We need to work with what we do have. This is pleasing to God. But God loves us too much to let us remain “mustard seeds.” In the parable of the mustard seed Jesus explains that even though the mustard seed is the smallest of the garden seeds, when it grows it is the largest of the garden plants and even becomes a tree so that the birds of the air can perch in its branches (Matt. 13:31-32). God sees us as what we can be, not as what we are. In order to grow and flourish we need the nourishment the word of God provides. “Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18). “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, (this is the beginning--the mustard seed) continue to live in Him, (attached to the source of nourishment) rooted and built up in Him, (growing) strengthened in the faith as you were taught (becoming a tree)” (Col. 2:6-7). The nourishment we receive from God’s word is sufficient for us to handle all of the worries and struggles of life. With each struggle behind us, our faith grows as our knowledge of God being with us in all things is tested and proved. God allows these struggles and hardships because He knows that through them we grow from the seed to the tree. So, how much faith do we need?

All it takes is a little.

Book Signing TODAY!

You are invited to celebrate the completion
and publishing of J.L. May’s first Christian novel,
The Counselor
today from 2 to 4pm in the small auditorium. It
was written for two reasons: (1) the need for
good fiction that Christians can feel comfortable
reading and recommending for others without
fear of finding offensive language. (2) Fiction
is an effective media for conveying a moral
message. This book was written to discuss
the pros and cons of the abortion issues.

Be Filled With The Spirit                  "A Word from Ryan"
The Bible calls for us to walk according to the Spirit and not after the flesh (Galatians 5:16-25). Those who belong to Christ have crucified or put to death the works of the flesh or some translations say sinful nature. As Christians, those who live spiritual lives ought to keep in step with the Spirit. To keep in step is a military term meaning to hold ranks or to walk in step with an identifiable leader. Christians are to follow the leader and that is Jesus Christ. At times we do sin (Romans 3:23). Years ago Tennessee and Ole Miss were playing each other in football. Tennessee had the football and it had appeared that the Vols had moved early. In fact, at least three guys in orange jerseys moved across the line of scrimmage. Out came a penalty flag and people just knew Tennessee had moved early. But the defense was actually the ones who were penalized. When the flag was picked up, the referee explained that the penalty was against Ole Miss. The defense was penalized five yards for calling false cadence. With the offensive team’s quarterback barking signals, somebody on the defensive line had imitated his voice and fooled at least three men on Tennessee’s team. Sometimes, we jump across the line that separates the Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of darkness and we sin. The penalty is against us. When we sin we usually are pulled into the world by listening to false cadence. I encourage us all to walk after the Spirit and not according to the flesh. To live in submission to the Spirit of God and to walk in step with the Spirit’s cadence is not a cowardly lifestyle but a courageous one. God bless us all as we live for the Lord!

What’s the Difference?

... Between the atheist who supports no church and the member who will not support the one to which he belongs?
... Between the skeptic who does not believe the Bible, and the negligent Christian who never reads it?
... Between those who do not believe in Bible classes, and those who never attend them?
... Between the man of the world, and a person in the church who lives like a man of the world?
