"Fear is Lack of Knowledge"
By Glen Knabe

Piglet is a very shy and timid little creature. One night Piglet had a terrible time trying to sleep because of the many “bumps” he heard in the night. So he decided to go see his good friend Pooh. Perhaps Pooh would know what those “bumps” were and what to do. Pooh Bear’s imagination got the best of him as well and so the two friends decided to visit Owl. To calm their fears, Owl took them on a tour of the Hundred Acre Woods at night. After meeting crickets, moths, frogs, deer, foxes, mice, and other “bumps” in the night; and after seeing the trees sway gently in the night breeze; and after meeting an opossum whose shadow “heffed” along in a “lumpish” sort of way; the fear and out of control imaginations of Pooh and Piglet began to be replaced with understanding and knowledge. What a valuable lesson Owl has taught us.

Piglet’s problem is the same that people have all over the world. We fear that which we do not know or understand and that which we fear, we want to get rid of. In Mark 11:18, the chief priests and the teachers of the law heard some of Jesus’ teachings. They then began looking for a way to kill Him (get rid of Him), for they feared Him. They wanted to be rid of that which they feared. They feared Him because they did not know Him. If they had known Him, if they had understood Him, they would have never tried to get rid of the very Messiah they were looking for. The disciples were full of fear when the storm came upon them in the boat. They did not know if they were going to make it. They did not know what manner of man was in the boat with them. Jesus asks, “Why are you so afraid?” (Matt 8:26). Lack of knowledge. Another time they were on the lake at night and thinking a ghost was passing by, they cried out in fear (Matt 14:25-27). Jesus said, “It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

We fear many things today. We don’t know if the cancer will go away. We don’t know if we are going to be financially stable. My job is on the line. The plant is closing down. We fear because we don’t have the knowledge we long for. We don’t know what is going to happen. We just don’t know and therefore we fear. Jesus never promised the walk with Him would reveal the future. He never promised the path would be smooth or come without obstacles or hitches or unexpected surprises. He just said, “Take courage. It is I. Don’t be afraid.” He never promised to keep us out of the storm. He just promised to go through it with us. He never promised to lead us around or away from the valley of the shadow of death. He just promised to walk through it with us. Even though we don’t know what will happen or how it will happen, even though we don’t see or know what the “bumps” in the night are, we do know that Jesus is beside us and that is all the knowledge we need. “Take courage. It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

  I’d Rather Have A Friend                  "A Word from Ryan"

pot of gold A lot of folks I know would choose a million bucks to spend,
But if I had to make my choice, I’d rather have a friend.
Oh, spending money may be fun and mighty well worth trying,
dog & cat inside heart But spending time with someone nice is much more satisfying.
Some people think that fame must be life’s greatest dividend,
But give me, if I have a choice, a faithful, life-long friend.
For fame and money get away, And leave you high and stranded;
But once you’ve found a real true friend, You’re never empty handed.

Did Noah fish?
A Sunday school teacher asked, “Johnny, do you think Noah did a lot of fishing when he want on the Ark?” “NO!” replied Johnny. “How could he with just two worms?”

Higher Power
A Sunday school teacher said to her children, “We have been learning how powerful kings and queens were in Bible times. But, there is a Higher Power. Can anybody tell me what it is?” One child blurted out, “Aces!”
