"In Order that Satan Might Not Outwit Us"
By Glen Knabe
Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 4:4, “The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” Satan, the god of this age and world, has done an excellent job of persuading the hearts of men to follow the world instead of God. They, as the passage says, are blinded so that they can not even see the light. Although this passage is talking about unbelievers, it is so very important that we, who are believers, not become so naive as to think that we are immune to the same schemes Satan uses to distract others from God. It is so easy for Satan to outwit us. We as humans are selfish and very prideful. It is very easy for us to become puffed up and proud concerning ourselves, never realizing that Satan uses these very things to destroy us.
For example, in 1 Corinthians 15:50, God says through Paul, “I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God . . . .” This is something that we, as believers, all know and realize. However, because of our pride, we become puffed up and apply this verse to others, those who are outside the body of Christ. We rarely apply it to ourselves and since we don’t think about this verse applying to us, Satan uses our pride to attack us. How? By persuading our hearts towards things that deal with flesh and blood, that is, the physical things of life. And we, even though we are believers and members of Christ’s body, are just as caught up in the physical things of life as nonbelievers are.
In Luke 14:16-24, Jesus tells a parable about a man who prepared a banquet and invited many guests. People gave excuses as to why they could not come. “I have just bought a field,” one says. “I have just bought five yoke of oxen,” says another. One had just gotten married. How many times have excuses such as these that deal with the physical things of life kept us from Jesus. Satan knows that no one who places Jesus second behind the physical things of life will inherit the kingdom of God, whether they are believers or nonbelievers, whether they are members of Christ’s body or not. Therefore, let us totally and completely humble ourselves before God in prayer, asking for His guidance and direction in every aspect of our daily life, whether great or small, in order that Satan might not outwit us and cause us to follow the god of this age instead of the God of eternity.

Pray For Our Nation
Every evening at 9:00, praying people all over the nation will be dropping what they are doing for one minute to petition God for our nation. One minute doesn’t sound like much, but when multiplied by millions at the same time God will get the message. It is the judgment of many religious leaders across the nation that this election year is the most critical in America’s history. The outcome of this election may determine the extent of our religious freedoms in the future. If God wants to limit our religious freedoms to wake us up, then so be it! But talk to Him about it!!

Resist The Devil "A Word from Ryan"
An old preacher in Haiti once said this about the Devil. A certain man wanted to sell his house for two thousand dollars. Another man wanted to buy it very badly, but he was a poor man and didn’t have the full price. After much bargaining, the owner agreed to sell the house to the man for one thousand dollars. But the reduced price came with a stipulation. The owner would sell the house, but he would keep ownership of a large nail protruding from over the front door.

Use of personal vehicles for Holden Avenue transportation
It was recently brought to our attention by the church’s auto insurance company that a member of Holden Avenue who uses his (her) personal vehicle to transport others
to/from church services/activities does not have liability coverage. The church’s policy covers only persons driving the van/bus owned by Holden Avenue. This potential exposure could affect you should an accident occur. Please be aware of this situation as you choose to serve the church at Holden Avenue. If you have any questions, please contact any of the elders or Guy Dale Adams, transportation ministry. Thank you for your continued service.
