"Life Links Chaplaincy"
By Glen Knabe

I was sick and you visited me . . .” (Matthew 25:36)

This morning I would like to share with you a ministry that is ready and willing to serve you and your family members. It is Life Links Chaplaincy. But first, let me introduce the Director, Donald Pharis. Don is a native of Jackson county. He grew up in Amagon and graduated from Newport High School. Don has been in ministry for many years and is currently working full time as the Executive Director of Life Links Chaplaincy, which is under the oversight of the Central Church of Christ in Little Rock.

The needs of a ministry such as Life Links became apparent to Don while serving as the minister for the church in Magnolia. He noticed that many of the members of the congregation, as well as from the community, drove to Little Rock for medical care. With Little Rock being centrally located, that is probably the case for most communities in the state. It certainly is for Newport. The problem for local ministers, as Don found working in Magnolia, is that they can’t always make that trip to Little Rock to minister to the members and families of the community they serve. Yet, when dealing with a loss, or a life-altering event, as is often the case when visiting the hospital, the family needs someone of like faith more than ever.

This is where Life Links Chaplaincy comes in. Many of the states churches, especially rural churches, either do not have a full time minister, or they are too far away for the minister to come to Little Rock during trauma situations. Not that the minister or even a member of the congregation doesn’t want to come and be there, but that it is simply not often possible. In situations like these, Donald Pharis and Life Links Chaplaincy acts as a “third hand,” being there at the hospital when the family needs support the most.

I have personally called Don on a couple of occasions to visit members of our congregation and community when I was not able to go. What a blessing it is to know that a compassionate, experienced person of like faith is there and willing to serve. If you have any questions concerning this ministry, brother Pharis is here this morning and would be more than happy to answer them.

The U in JesUs                  "A Word from Ryan"

Before U were thought of or time had begun, God stuck U in the name of His Son.

And each time U pray, you'll see it's true, You can't spell out JesUs and not include U.

You're a pretty big part of His wonderful name, For U, He was born; that's why He came.

And His great love for U is the reason He died. It even takes U to spell crUcified.

Isn't it thrilling and splendidly grand He rose from the dead, with U in His plan.

The stones split away, the gold trUmpet blew, and this word resUrrection is spelled with a U.

When JesUs left earth at His upward ascension, He felt there was one thing He just had to mention.

"Go into the world and tell them it's true That I love them all - Just like I love U." o many great people are spelled with a U, Don't they have a right to know JesUs too?

It all depends now on what U will do, He'd like them to know,

But it all starts with U.

Unanswered Prayer

The preacher’s 5 year-old daughter noticed that her father always paused and bowed his head for a moment before starting his sermon. preacher at pulpit One day, she asked him why. "Well, Honey," he began, proud that his daughter was so observant of his messages. "I’m asking the Lord to help me preach a good sermon." "How come He doesn’t answer it?" she asked.
