SANDHILL CHURCH OF CHRIST NEWSLETTER
MARCH 30, 2008

RETURN OF THE STUDENTS
Harding students will be here again next Sunday. We will enjoy a fellowship meal together at noon and return for our evening worship at 1:00.

FRIENDLY ADVICE
Look in the mirror before you leave home each morning. Take note of which way the corners of your mouth turn; because that is often the way your day will go.

Be kind to unkind people. They need it most.

SPEAKER: MARTEL PACE of Montgomery, Alabama

THEME: "SERENDIPITIES IN HEBREWS"

(No book of the Bible shows us the glory, power and
authority of Jesus as well as the book of Hebrews.)

Saturday, May 3- 7:00 p.m.- "What Jesus does for us
Through the New Covenant."
(What makes the New Covenant so much better than the old?)

Sunday, May 4 - 9:30 Bible Class- "Intro. To Islam"
10:30 Worship - "The Importance and Necessity of The Church Jesus Built."
1:00 Worship - "How Hebrews Determines the Authority of God For the Church Today."

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Martel Pace has recently written a commentary on Hebrews, which was published by "Truth for Today" in August, 2007. His lessons on Hebrews are the fruit of his study to produce the commentary. He illustrates his messages with power point. As a preacher and Bible scholar for more than 50 years, you can expect a rich presentation of Biblical truth.

In the late 50's he was full-time evangelist for the church at Tupelo while continuing post-graduate studies at Harding Graduate School of Religion in Memphis.

FOOL'S GOLD
Iron Pyrite is the chemical compound that has deceived many weary prospectors. Better known as "fools' gold" - some who have found it thought they had found real gold. There are religious "prospectors" today who wearily look for a better, more exciting religious experience. They are sometimes called "seekers." They can get caught up in the sensationalism of animated "worship" and stories of "miraculous" events in the lives of the worshipers.

I believe God still works in the lives of His people to accomplish His purposes today. But when the "miraculous events" and "prophetic utterances" spoken of today are compared with those we read about in the New Testament, they often pale in comparison.

A "prospector" who has found "fool's gold" may not know the difference until he takes the time to go into town and have it examined by an assayer.

A religious "seeker" may not know his new found worship experiences are not the real thing until he examines them under the light of the New Testament.

The "carnival" atmosphere in much that is called worship today leads me to conclude that not everything called "worship" today is really worship.

"God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth" (John 4:24). To worship in spirit must mean with the right attitude and for the right purpose. To worship in truth means in the right manner. The Corinthian Christians were corrected for not taking the Lord's Supper in either spirit or truth. They didn't do it for the right purpose or the right way (1 Corinthians 11:17-30). They surely didn't know it until Paul told the, but many were growing weak and sickly and some had already died spiritually (vs. 30).

Worshiping with elaborate instrumentation is exciting and it does appeal to the flesh. But when compared to the worship of the New Testament, it is "fool's gold."

If I was at liberty to do whatever I liked to do in worship, it would be far different than it is now. But my task is in 'finding out what is acceptable to the Lord" (Ephesians 5:10), and doing my best to please Him. I am not at liberty to do what pleases me unless what pleases me is also what pleases God.

"I was glad when they said to me, `Let us to into the house of the Lord "'(Psalm 122:1).
